Summary

English: Zacallites cockerelli sp.
Photographer
English: NPS photo
Title
English: Zacallites cockerelli sp.
Description
English:

A damselfly fossil facing up with a black body, see-through wings with veins visible, and the tip of the wings are brown.

Damselfly fossils are more commonly found than dragonflies. Modern damselflies stay closer to water and ancient ones may have behaved similarly. Ancient and modern damselflies and dragonflies are differentiated by wing venation. An easy way to tell most modern damselflies and dragonflies apart is at rest: damselflies fold their wings while dragonflies keep their wings extended. Catalog number FOBU13830.
