File:CRT rotation and color changes.jpg

Original file (1,511 × 1,238 pixels, file size: 738 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)
Summary
[edit]Demonstration of the challenges of rotating a standard Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) display from landscape to portrait mode. The earth's magnetic field creates severe color distortions on the rotated display, and the distortions do not disappear until the CRT is degaussed in the portrait orientation.
Note that when switched back to the normal landscape, the colors again mess up but in reverse of before. Another round of degaussing is required to restore the colors to normal.
Photo demonstration was created using a Hitachi CM715 19" analog RGB CRT, and a Canon PowerShot A640 10 megapixel camera.
