Balsamdosa i silver från Gustav III:s kröning, 1772.

Description

Svenska: Balsamdosa från Gustav III:s kröning 1772-05-29 i Storkyrkan, Stockholm.
Rund dosa av silver med påträtt, 5 mm högt, löst lock. På locket graverat Gustav III:s krönta namnchiffer samt däromkring med skrivstil: "Kröning Smörjelse". Dosan invändigt förgylld.
Balsamet som en gång låg i dosan blandades till av hovapotekaren. Det innehöll lavendel och rosor, och var rödfärgat och till konsistensen något mer trögflytande än olja. Under kröningsceremonin strök ärkebiskopen balsamet på kungens kropp, som då fick Guds välsignelse.
