Biography
[edit]Theodor Tetianych was born 17 February 1942 in Kniazhychi,[1] former territory of Russian Empire and Kyiv region of Ukrainian Republic of Soviet Union (Soviet Ukraine) annexed by German State.
His parents, Constantine and Tetiana were Ukrainian peasants of Orthodox Christian Ukrainian (i.e. Rusyn and Cossack at the same time) origin, who worked at a collective farm.[2] One of marks of him as part of Orthodox Christian community and Western civilisation is his name, Theodosius, which he got in memory of famous bishop, Theodosius of Chernigiv, which in its turn helps to remember other people, praised by Church for centuries, among them Theodosius the Caveman and Theodosius the Great, Theodosius the Emperor.
He studied at village school than moved to Kyiv to study in Kyiv Academy, its Schools of Arts known as Kyiv Academy of Arts. After finishing the study in Academy he begin to work in the field of art at the same time providing further education for himself with the help of God (self-education). At that time he interested himself in the whole Universe around - religion, philosophy, art, history, culture, travelling, people, mathematics, physics, politics, communism and nationalism etc. etc. He made a lot of works of art in different styles and techniques among them social realism, historical paintings, modern art (avant-garde), etc.[3]
Mystical things surrounded Uncle Teddy from his birth and childhood. Among them different signs of Almighty (which he later attributed to himself and called the signs of Frypulia). One of most impressful revelations of 1970ies according to his own words gave beginning to his famous name (acronym, pseudonym) FRYPULIA (Fedir+cRYstall+PULsar+IA) often associated with his interest in studies of Ukrainian and Cossack culture of that time and constant search for his own, unique place in it.
From the middle of 1980s he moved to streets of Kyiv and begin share his philosophy, experience, opinion and worldview with all people around, all who wanted to engage in dialogue with him. Many Kyiv citizens and guests were impressed by him, his worldview, his style of life and artistic activity, his preaching about the beauty and bounty of Infinity and its Creator, Artist of Universe, who dwells in His Beautiful Citadel on the banks of the ancient river (i.e. Dnipro).[4]
The main theme of Feodosiy's performances was freedom (among misspellings and interpretations of his nickname there is "Freepulia"), and was one of the first performance artist in post-Soviet Ukraine.[5]
Feodosiy had married Ganna from the Bublyk family and they gave birth to their children, Bohdan and Lada.[6]
Feodosii Tetyanych died of cancer at a hospital in Kyiv on February 18, 2007, leaving his wife and two children.Buried in the Knyazhychi village.[7]
Miracle work of artist Tetyanich is interesting for modern art, in investigations of art-critics in 2021.[8]
