Everybody Loves Jenifa is a 2024 Nigeria film, a comedy drama produced and directed by Funke Akindele and Tunde Olaoye, it serves as continuation of the Jenifa franchise.[1] The cast retains most of the act from the previous instalment and new faces including Funke Akindele, Nancy Isime, Stan Nze, Adedimeji Lateef, Falz, Layi Wasabi, Jackie Appiah, Omowunmi Dada, Chimezie Imo, Patience Ozokwor and others.[2] The film was released to cinema nationwide on 13 December 2024 and continues to tell the story of Jenifa as she faces new challenges of a new neighbour who threatens and begins to outshine her charity organisation, leading to more different confrontation, jealousy and bitterness.[3] Akindele has set the target for the film for N5 billion in ticket sales, emphasizing that she has faith that the film can beat the number she has set.[4]
Plot summary
[edit]Everybody Loves Jenifa tells the story of Jenifa who now runs a charity organisation and has gained popularity in the neighbourhood. Her popularity and organisation soon becomes threatened when a new neighbour, Lobster joins the community and his own charity organisation begins to outshine that of Jenifa causing jealousy and rift amongst them especially after Jenifa requested a partnership with Lobster which he vehemently rejected.
After sometime, Jenifa discovers a secret about Lobster and wants to expose him, but the powerful connection and influence of Lobster was able to silence Jenifa. Jenifa travels to Ghana on a business trip, which soon turns to Shege proposing marriage to her, which she refuses, event turned against her in Ghana putting them into trouble with a drug group.[5]

Production and reception
[edit]Just before the release of Everybody Loves Jenifa to the cinemas, Funke Akindele alongside some cast members of the film released a song titled 'Everybody Loves Christmas', a soundtrack for Everybody Loves Jenifa film, the five minutes video features some cast including Falz, Layi Wasabi, Dbanj, Patience Ozokwor, Chimezie Imo, Tope Tedela, Omotunde Adebowale-David, Bisola Aiyeola, Jide Kosoko, Omowunmi Dada, Juliana Olayode, Nancy Isime, and Waje.[7] Akindele's friends and supporters have also expressed shock at her first on-screen kiss in a movie, as Akindele who played Jenifa kissed her partner in the film, Shege played by Falz in the film, the kiss has become talking point amongst friends and supporters.[8]
Release and distribution
[edit]Following the release of Everybody Loves Jenifa on 13 December 2024, the film grossed over N40 million in its opening day, making it the biggest opening day for a Nollywood film with ₦45.2M.[9][10] Akindele also announced premiere of the film in UK on 20 December 2024, however tickets have all sold out in UK just before the premiere date.[11]
