Separate article for the Massacre or Merge into PTI Protest/Unrest Page(s)

[edit]
  • Support: separate pages. These are separate events—related, yes, but distinct for Wiki purposes. From an epistemic standpoint, they warrant separate treatment. As examples: my lai massacre vs Vietnam War, Apollo 11 vs Space Race; Battle of Gettysburg vs American Civil War, Kent State shootings vs Cambodian campaign. Scope, notability, focus, chronological breadth, geographical breadth are distinct.WP:AT and WP:N require, IMHO, separate articles because the massacre event was an atypical response to protests in a democratic system, nor did the protesters consider their mass murder in the domain of possibilities, rhetoric notwithstanding. Finally, the suffix 'unrest' in the alternate title is a partial misnomer. While unrest signifies a broad, often chaotic state of social or political instability, protest is a more focused, organized expression of dissent aimed at specific grievances or issues. Protestors made specific demands to call off their protests. Anasim (talk) 02:10, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested rename of Article: Islamabad Massacre 2024

[edit]

There are three drafts on the subject at this time.

  1. Draft:Islamabad Massacre 2024
  2. Draft:Islamabad Massacre 26 November 2024 D-Chowk Islamabad PTI Protest
  3. Draft:Islamabad Massacre

I suggest merging #2 and #3 into 1. I suggest using the title in #1. The reasons are:

Article Name for the #2 embeds related article in the name itself; it should instead use related article template. Article name in #3 is too generic. This massacre happened in 2024. There have been other massacres in Islamabad in 1986, 2007, 2014, and 2017.

In conclusion, I would like to merge edits in #2 and #3 into #1 and wait for the editorial decision to keep a separate page for the massacre or merge it with the unrest/protest page.
