Zvi Drezner (born February 23, 1943) is a Professor Emeritus at the College of Business, California State University, Fullerton, U.S.A. He is renowned for his contributions to the field of location analysis and operations research.
Education and early life
[edit]Zvi Drezner was born on February 23, 1943, in Tel-Aviv, Israel. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1965 and a Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1975, both from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
Academic career
[edit]Drezner joined the College of Business at California State University, Fullerton, where he became a leading researcher in location analysis. Over his career, he authored two books, 341 peer-reviewed papers, 26 book chapters, and numerous conference proceedings. His work has been cited approximately 23,000 times, and his h-index is 72, reflecting his significant impact on the field of operations research. His seminal contributions have advanced mathematical and computational approaches to facility location problems. His work has been celebrated in a book titled Contributions to Location Analysis: In Honor of Zvi Drezner’s 75th Birthday (2019), which includes chapters by 18 authors summarizing his career and achievements. In his chapter, Drezner included a abbreviated translation of his first peer-reviewed scientific paper published in Hebrew in 1962, at the age of 19.
Awards and recognition
[edit]The Lifetime Achievement in Location Analysis Award by INFORMS Section on Location Analysis, recognizing him as a world-leading researcher in location analysis. This award is given once every three years to the most prominent researcher in the world working in the field of location analysis. The award was announced at the ISOLDE (International Symposium on Locational Decisions) meeting in Seville, Spain, June 7, 2005. Zvi Drezner is the fifth recipient of the award.
Fellow of the Institute of Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) in 2013 for his seminal contributions to location theory and mathematical analysis in operations research.

Personal life
[edit]Zvi Drezner married Tammy Drezner, Ph.D., in 1967; she died in 2022. They have a daughter, Taly Dawn Drezner, Gelfand Ph.D., and two grandchildren, Ryan Gelfand and Daphne Gelfand.
