Zorro is an upcoming American adventure western television series written and executive produced by Robert Rodriguez, Rebecca Rodriguez, and Sean Tretta.
Production
[edit]In November 2019, a reboot Zorro series started development at NBC with Alfredo Barrios Jr. as both writer and executive producer and will be produced by Propagate and CBS Television Studios. The series will have more of a "modern day" setting and will follow Z, a female descendant from the Zorro bloodline, as she fulfills her duty to "protect the defenseless in her community".[1] On December 9, 2020, Robert Rodriguez and Sofía Vergara were announced as executive producers.[2]
In January 2022, the series moved to The CW. Robert Rodriguez and Rebecca Rodriguez reworked the story, and Sean Tretta joined to write the script and act as showrunner. Rebecca Rodriquez was also directing the pilot episode. Vergara left the project and a new executive producing team was established.[3] The CW then ordered six scripts to further evaluate the story before deciding to move forward with the pilot.[4] In May 2023, The CW announced that the series had been cancelled by its new majority owners, Nexstar Media Group.[5]
