History

[edit]

Zikhron Ya'akov railway station was founded by the British in the year 1920 next to the settlement Zikhron Ya'akov.

Attempts to reopen the station

[edit]

On 26 November 2001, Israeli Transportation Minister Efraim Sneh made a visit to Zikhron Ya'akov. During the visit, the need to reopen the train station was presented to him. Following his visit, the minister decided that the station would be reopened for passengers during the year 2003. However, nothing happened and the station remained closed.

The station structure

[edit]

The station structure is still there, but it has not been used since the station's closing. The station has no platform; it contains a small structure with a few rooms in it. The station is located about 500 meters to the west of Mall Zichron Shopping Center. Next to the station is an Israel Railways command and control center.
