Draft:Zero Waste Daniel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zero Waste Daniel is a New York based clothing brand founded by Daniel Silverstein.[1] Zero Waste Daniel focuses on sustainability by utilizing pre-consumer waste from the garment industry of New York City to produce clothing and accessories.[2][1]

Brand History

[edit]

Zero Waste Daniel was founded in 2015 by Daniel Silverstein after he exited his first eco-conscious venture, Package Free[3].[4] The brand's inaugural flagship store opened in 2016 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.[5] The design technique that Zero Waste Daniel has become known for is a form of patchwork called "reroll," which allows for the use of small scraps during textile creation.[1][6]

In 2017, Zero Waste Daniel was featured by media outlets such as NOW THIS, INSIDER, MASHABLE, and BUZZFEED.[7][8][9] During this time, Zero Waste Daniel hosted untraditional New York Fashion Week shows, including a comedy performance called "Sustainable Fashion is Hilarious."[10][11]

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the storefront was closed and Zero Waste Daniel operated exclusively online for three years.[8] After recovering from the economic hit of COVID-19, Zero Waste Daniel reopened a new storefront in September 2023 in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.[12]

Celebrity Clientele

[edit]

Zero Waste Daniel has dressed drag queens such as Yvie Oddly, Jinkx Monsoon, Shea Coulé and Raja Gemini from Rupaul's Drag Race.[9] Celebrities who have worn Zero Waste Daniel include Fran Drescher, Jennifer Hudson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Ilana Glazer.[8][13][9][14][15]

Collaborations

[edit]

Zero Waste Daniel has collaborated with brands and organizations such as Alice & Olivia, ThredUp, Nuuly, The New York Department of Sanitation, American Express, Nissan, and Pact.[8][13][16][17][18][19][20][11]
