Zachariah Mar Severios is the Metropolitan of Idukki Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.[1]
Early life and family
[edit]Zachariah was born on 19 August 1978, in the Chirathilattu family to a priest in Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Fr. C. John Cor-Episcopa Chirathilattu. He belongs to the parish of St. Mary's Orthodox Church, Vakathanam, Puthenchantha, under Kottayam diocese.
Education
[edit]He completed primary education at J.M.H.S.S., Vakathanam (1991-1994), and pre-degree studies at K.G. College, Pampady (1994-1996). He further completed a law degree at Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram (1996-1999) and a postgraduate degree in Syriac literature from M.G University, Kottayam (2007-2009).[2]
Career

[edit]Zachariah enrolled at Kottayam Old Seminary, where he completed his Graduate in Sacred Theology degree (2001-2006). He studied BD (Bachelor of Divinity) at Serampore University, completed it during the same period. He was appointed to the sub-deaconship, deaconship, and priesthood from H.G. Geevarghese Mar Ivanios Metropolitan at Njaliyakuzhi Dayara, Vakathanam in 2006.[2]
Ordination as Metropolitan
[edit]Malankara Syrian Christian Association held at Kolencherry on 25th February 2022[3] elected Fr Zachariah Ninan Chirathilattu as a Metropolitan of the Malankara Church. He was granted the status of Ramban at the Parumala Seminary on 2nd June 2022. H.H. Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews III Catholicos ordained him as Metropolitan on 28th July 2022 with the name Zachariah Mar Severios at St. Mary's Cathedral, Pazhanji|.[4][5][6]
Since 3rd November 2022, Zachariah Mar Severios has been serving as the Metropolitan bishop of Idukki diocese.[3][7]
