Biography
[edit]Yehia Galal was an Egyptian judge who served as the head of the Illicit Gains Authority. He was actively involved in legal proceedings against former officials from the regime of President Hosni Mubarak following the Egyptian revolution of 2011. Galal passed away around 2020–2021 due to lung cancer.
Career
[edit]As the head of the Illicit Gains Authority, Galal played a significant role in investigating and prosecuting corruption among former government officials. In October 2012, he was instrumental in remanding Fathi Sorour, a former speaker of the Egyptian Parliament, into custody pending investigation. Sorour, along with other officials from Mubarak's regime, faced allegations of illicit wealth accumulation and involvement in the suppression of the 2011 pro-democracy protests.[1][2] Under Galal's leadership, the Illicit Gains Authority conducted thorough investigations into these allegations, part of broader efforts to address corruption and human rights abuses during the Mubarak era. In October 2012, the Authority also ordered the arrest of Fathi Sorour.[3] The Authority later froze the assets of ex-presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq.[4]

[edit]Yehia Galal was married to Hanaa Mahgoub. They had two daughters: Maha Galal and Mai Galal. Maha Galal is married to Ahmed Nasr. They have a family including a son, Yahia Nasr, and two daughters, Jaida Nasr and Leen Nasr.
