Xia Zhiguang(Chinese: 夏之光; pinyin: Xià Zhīguāng) is a Chinese actor, dancer, and singer. He began his career in the entertainment industry as a member of the Chinese boy group X Nine, debuting from the idol survival show X Fire. In 2017, he was admitted to the Performance Department of Shanghai Theater Academy with the third highest score among boys. In 2019, He participated in another idol survival show Produce Camp 2019, where he won 4th place and debuted as the lead dancer of the temporary boy group R1SE.


Early life and education

2000 to 2014: Early experiences

Xia Zhiguang was born to an ordinary family in Hefei, Anhui Province, China on January 4, 2000.

When he was in elementary school, he was selected by Teacher Wang Ping of Hefei Yaohai Youth Activity Center from the first glance. He joined the first male dance team in Anhui Province established by the center, and studied dance under Teacher Wang Ping for 3 years. In 2010, when he was in fifth grade, the Dance School Affiliated to the Shanghai Theater Academy came to Hefei to recruit students. On the recommendation of teacher Wang Ping, Xia Zhiguang participated in the interview and was successfully admitted to the Dance School Affiliated to the Shanghai Theater Academy to study folk dance.[1]

2015 to 2018: Participated in X Fire, joined X Nine and officially debuted

In 2015, he participated in the youth talent development inspirational program "X Fire" jointly produced by Zhejiang Satellite TV, Tianyu Media, Tencent Video and SM Entertainment, and was selected to sing Justin Bieber's song "Boyfriend" in the first episode, where he joined Shu Qi's team[2].

On September 24, 2016, X Nine launched its first EP "X9"[3]. On September 28 of the same year, he participated in the debut press conference of the X Nine and officially debuted as a dancer[4].

On April 2, 2017, he held his first concert with members of the X Nine at the Shanghai Stadium[5][6]. On April 27 of the same year, the single album "Dazzling Youth" was released [7].

On February 14, 2018, X Jiu Youth League released their second EP "Keep Online (YES version)"[8]。"Keep Online (NO Version)" was released on May 9[9], and it was sold online only 36 hours after Kuwo Music. It was awarded platinum album sales by Kuwo Music. On the 5th day, it was awarded double platinum album sales, becoming It is the fastest album to achieve double platinum award in the history of Kuwo Music[10]。In the same year, he starred in the online drama "Oh! My Emperor" with members of X Nine[11]. On October 4th and December 1st, the members held two X Nine KEEP ONLINE concerts at Hangzhou Huanglong Sports Center10[12][13] and Shenzhen Universiade Sport Center[14] respectively.

2019 to present: Produce Camp 2019 and R1SE

In 2019, he participated in "Produce Camp 2019" with members of X Nine Peng Chuyue, Zhao Lei and Yan Xujia, as well as Zhou Zhennan and Zhai Xiaowen from Wajijiwa Entertainment[15][16]. In the end, Xia Zhiguang finished fourth with 11,107,051 votes and debuted as a member of the limited-time group R1SE[17].

Controversy

On December 24, 2020, Xia Zhiguang shared on social platforms that "#Christmas Eve Ritual Sense# We released the little turtle that my grandma had raised for many years. I wish everyone safety." He hoped that his "good deed" would move netizens, but Aquatic biology expert bloggers and popular science bloggers pointed out that the turtle he released was a Brazilian turtle, which may cause species invasion hazards[22]. After the incident became controversial, Xia Zhiguang wrote an article to apologize to the public.
