XiMpLe is a Windows based XML and Json editor written by Petr Novak and firstly published in 2018..[1] The editor arranges and displays data in a grid table view, which like e.g. in XMLSpy enables to see its structure and manipulate with tables' rows, columns or blocks of data.
Distribution
[edit]The program is distributed as one small file which doesn't require any installation.[2] It's free for non-commercial use, the commercial using requires the license[3]. The program is also a part of the Chocolatey package distribution[4].
XML editing features
[edit]XiMpLe has several features for editing XML documents. It checks the "well-formed" conditions of the file and can also validate file by an XSD schema in a special mode.[5] Two xml files can be compared and the differences can be reviewed in a grid table view mode. Together with features for merging the changes, the documents can be merged and modified in a simple way[6]. Bigger files (over 100MB) can be split into smaller fragments by the editor's special tool. These smaller pieces don't brake the well-formed property and can be edited separately. At the end these fragments can be put together again by a join functionality of the editor[7].
It supports a copy and paste functions in cooperation with the spreadsheet editors[8]. XiMpLe also provides a quite special feature for mining nested data in a table's column (section Sub-tables in the user guide [7]).
Versions
[edit]Up to version 1.5 the tool was based on .NET Framework 3.5 or .NET Framework 4.0.[2] From version 1.6 the .NET Framework 4.5 is used.
