Biography
[edit]Early Life and Military Service
[edit]Mr. Wu was born in Sanmin District, Kaohsiung City and graduated from Kaohsiung Li-chih Valuable High School. After graduation, he entered the Special Operations Command of the R.O.C. Army and worked as a wind pipe worker after his discharge.
Participation in the Russo-Ukrainian War
[edit]In 2023, Wu joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces and was assigned to defense duties in eastern Ukraine. During his service, he suffered a ruptured periosteum in his right foot after being shot at and returned to Taiwan to recuperate.
In 2024, Wu Chung-Ta met Pan Wen-Yang, a Taiwanese volunteer who had served in the International Military Corps in Ukraine. At Wu's invitation, Pan joined the Alpha Company of the 2nd Battalion of the International Military Corps of Ukraine, and the two began combat raids in Chasiv Yar, eastern Ukraine in October.
Killed In Action
[edit]According to Pan Wen-Yang‘s statement, Wu Chung-Ta and his teammates carried out two raids in which more than 24 teammates were killed in action and more than 10 others were seriously wounded. In one operation, they were ordered to attack a Russian position in the Chasiv Yar area, but came under Russian artillery fire during the engagement. Wu Chung-Ta was severely wounded in the shelling, sustaining a large open wound in his waist, and was killed in action shortly afterward. Pan Wen-Yang, with a strong sense of grief, led the wounded soldiers and medics to evacuate from the battle area[1] [2] .
