"Villain" is a song by Canadian pop punk band Hedley. It was released on July 26, 2005 as the second single from their debut self-titled studio album. The song appeared on the American release of their second studio album Famous Last Words titled, Never Too Late as a bonus track.[2]
Background
[edit]"Villain" was written by Chris Crippin, Dave Genn, Jacob Hoggard, Tommy Mac and Dave Rosin while production was handled by Garth Richardson.[3] According to Hoggard, the song is about "the harlots on the road."[4]
The group performed the track on MuchMusic's Much on Demand on September 8, 2005.[4]
Critical reception
[edit]Emilio Lv of Melodic stated that the song "could be a new fave in the modern rock land" and described it as a "standout" from their album.[1] Broadcast Music, Inc. called the track a "sneering riff-rock" opener.[5]
Chart performance
[edit]"Villain" debuted on the Canada Rock Top 30 chart at number 30 on the week of August 26, 2005.[6] The song later re-entered the chart on the week of September 30, 2005 at number 25.[7] The song eventually reached number 18 on the Canada Rock Top 30 chart.[8]
