The Victoria Square tower was a proposed observation tower that was planned to be built in Christchurch, New Zealand. If built, it would have been 167m from base to tip, and featured a restaurant, an observation deck, and a gift shop. The tower, while initially approved by the Christchurch City Council, was eventually cancelled thanks to concerns about its location. Critics said it would have overshadowed the Christchurch Cathedral and Victoria Square, despite its diminutive height as an observation tower. After the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes, the engineers of the tower claimed it would have survived, albeit damaged.[1]
