The Valencian metropolitan area is an urban area in the Valencian Community (Spain) centered on the city of Valencia bordering the Mediterranean sea on the east coast of the Iberian Peninsula. With a population of over 1.7 million people and over 60 municipalities, it is the third most populated urban area in Spain, after Madrid and Barcelona.

[edit]The urban area - the core of the metropolitan area - of Valencia has a population of 1,875,691 being the third most populated urban area in Spain behind Madrid and Barcelona. The Larger urban zone has a population of 1.72 million.
According to a lot of official organisations like the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of United Nations, councilofEurope.com and citypopulation.de, the Valencian metropolitan area differs in terms of population going from 1,600,000 to 1,900,000.

- Suburbs: consists of other municipalities (outside Valencia) in an official union of adjacent cities and municipalities. The total population is 314,000 in an area of 154,2 km^2.
- Peri-urban spaces: The total population is 175,000 in an area of 226,8 km^2.
- Rural areas: consists of every other municipality outside of the urban area. it has a total population of around 624,000 in an area of 9,984.4 km^2.
