Valena C. Jones Normal School (1892-1969) was a training school for African American teachers in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. It was preceded by Bay St Louis Negro School. Its last high school graduating class was in 1969. The school then became a primary school until 1972.[1] It was established to train African American teachers and certify them to work in the state's school system.
Valena Cecelia MacArthur Jones (1872 - January 13, 1917)[2] was born in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi in 1872 m, and after graduating in 1892 from Straight College in New Orleans was named principal of Bay St Louis Negro School in 1892. The school was renamed in her honor.[3] Another school was also named for her.[4]
Fannie C. Williams taught at the school.[5]
