Ukrainatv, stylized as UKRAiNATV is a media and experimental television project, established in early March 2022 in Kraków, Poland. It operates within the Stream Art Studio and is managed by Fundacja 36,6 in collaboration with the Intermedia Faculty of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and an international group of media artists, journalists, and activists. Ukrainatv integrates tactical media traditions, regional activism, and experimental digital media practices, creating hybrid forms of togetherness and co-presence in collaborative hyperspace.
Origins and concept
[edit]Founded in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainatv brings together immigrants, expats, and locals from countries such as Ukraine, Belarus, Italy, Poland, and others. The project provides a platform for storytelling and activism, countering dominant media narratives through independent and collective media production.
Central to its identity is the development of "stream art," a hybrid artistic practice blending live-streaming, performance, and interactive digital environments. This innovative approach redefines how media can function as both an artistic and communal tool, laying the groundwork for initiatives like the Stream Art Network (see Network Cultures (December 21, 2023). "Stream Art or the Third Avant-Garde?". Retrieved November 19, 2024.)
Selected projects and activities
[edit]Ukrainatv has realized numerous projects that showcase its experimental and participatory ethos, including:
- 24h Efir: A 24-hour continuous live broadcast combining artistic performances, discussions, and live music[1]
- Weekly #Efir Streams: Regular weekly broadcasts that create a space for dialogue, performance, and artistic collaboration[2]
- Unsound Festival Collaboration: UKRAiNATV partnered with Unsound to explore the intersection of music, digital media, and performance[3]
- Echoes of War: A telematic performance reflecting on the experiences of war and displacement[3]
- Art in the Shadow of War: A podcast produced in collaboration with Framer Framed, discussing the role of art in wartime (Listen on Spotify #18 - UKRAiNATV - Art in the Shadow of War))[4]
These projects demonstrate the collective's commitment to exploring the potential of live-streaming as both a creative medium and a tool for activism.

Critical reception
[edit]The project has been discussed in media and cultural platforms. According to *Monoskop*, Ukrainatv's hybrid model bridges the gap between art and activism, making it a case study in post-internet aesthetics. Additionally, its experimental production methods have been called a "third avant-garde" (see Institute of Network Cultures (December 21, 2023). "Stream Art or the Third Avant-Garde?".
