On February 21, 1986, USAir Flight 499, a McDonnell Douglas DC-9-31, overran the runway and crashed at Erie International Airport, in Erie, United States. One passenger suffered minor injuries, while the other 17 passengers and 5 crew were uninjured; the aircraft was badly damaged and was written off.[1]
Aircraft
[edit]The aircraft involved was a 16-year-old McDonnell Douglas DC-9-31, registered as N961VJ with serial number 47506. It was manufactured by McDonnell Douglas in 1970 and had logged 42104 airframe hours. It was also powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-7B engines.[2][3]
