Typhoon Violet, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Osang, was a devastating typhoon of the 1996 Pacific typhoon season. It "tore through Japan, killing at least seven people and paralyzing air and rail links before weakening to a tropical storm on Monday and moving toward the open Pacific".[1]
