Plot

[edit]

The series revolves around Salma Qureshi and Sikandar Altaf. It begins in 1993 when both are studying at an Arts college and first meet when Sikandar accidentally hits her with a ball while playing cricket. Salma's father decides to expel him from college on it but Salma forgives him due to his financial conditions, as stated by his friend who asks for forgiveness and tells her that he is from the village where his aged mother lives. Salma forgives him and everything becomes fine between them. Out of passion, Sikandar recites poetry on radio under the name Sikandar Hayat. Hearing his words, Salma falls in love with him, especially with his poem "Tamharey Husn Kay Naam", not knowing that he is her classmate Sikandar.

A wealthy friend of Salma's family wants to marry him, but she does not like Atif's boasting and wants to finish her studies first. For his textile business, he goes to her college to select the designers. During an exhibition there, he gets into an altercation with Sikandar when uses an insulting tone about the latter's craft. Salma supports Sikandar in this situation so as not to endanger his self-esteem. Atif tries to get him expelled from college, but Salma saves him with the help of her father. At the college's annual Mushaira, Sikandar recites poetry and Salma realises that he is actually the Sikandar Hayat. Atif and his family take his marriage proposal to Salma's house, where her father tells them that she first wants to complete her study. The angry Atif misbehaves with Salma in her college but Sikandar holds him back. He knows about their relationship and tells it to everyone. Salma meets Sikandar's mother in a Park where her friend Muneeza also secretly calls Atif there so that he comes to know about their meeting. When Salma's parents know about this through Atif's parents as Atif had told them, they ask for her choice to which she tells them about Sikandar. Her father decides to meet him giving them a fair chance but Sikandar doesn't come at that evening to her house. Her parents then fix her marriage with Atif who tortures her physically and mentally after the marriage. He redeems her studies and she bares it with patience and never complains to her parents. Sikandar then returns to college and Muneeza tries to create hate for Salma in his heart but fails. When Salma's father knows about the torture that she faces, she brings her to his house. The matter gets worse and her father decides to marry her with Sikandar. He reveals to Salma that he himself asks Sikandar for the sacrifice of his love for Salma and forbids him to come that evening. He goes to Sikandar to ask him to re-enter Salma's life, but changes his mind when he learns about his marriage to Muneeza. Muneeza also informs Sikandar about the troubled marriage of Salma, after which he decides to go for Salma, but his mother makes him understand to stand by his words. Salma gets upset with Sikandar about his decision to marry Muneeza, but actually he is marrying her just to keep the jealous and furious Muneeza away from Salma's married life. After some initial rift between them, they both accept each other and Sikandar then moves to London on scholarship. Salma decides to reconcile with Atif on observing her parents' concern. After moving there, the same violent behaviour of Atif re-begins to which her father asks her for Khul'. She denies to do so revealing that she is expecting and couldn't deprive her unborn from her father.

After twenty five years, Sikandar returns to Lahore as a successful architect from London and Salma becomes a professor in her college. Their children Sara and Umer do their job in Karachi and decide to marry after dating each other for sometime, unknown to the relationship of their parents. On returning to Lahore, Sikandar comes across Salma and proposes her as both are unmarried then. Muneeza had died off cancer and Salma had also separated from Atif. They decide to marry but soon they come to know that their children are going to marry as well . Considering their conditions especially Umer's hate for his father's ex-beloved i.e, Salma as implanted by Muneeza in him, Salma and Sikandar decide to call off their marriage and begin to make preparations of their children's wedding. On her wedding night, Sara elopes and the marriage is called off. After the cancellation, Salma and Sikandar again decide to marry. Umer's hate for Salma diminishes when he hears the conversation of his father with Atif who comes to their house to refrain Sikandar from marrying Salma. In their wedding ceremony, it reveals to them that Sara had eloped from the marriage because she knew about the past of her mother and Sikandar through the letters of Sikandar that he had written to Salma. She eloped as she knew that her mother had changed her decision of marriage due to her marriage and she didn't want a hindrance in the happiness of her mother. Salma delights on her sacrifice and asks her and Umer to marry to which they agree.
