TuBus is a public transit system in Guatemala city operated by the Municipality of Guatemala. The system is a local-service style that complements and feeds into the BRT system Transmetro. TuBus was announced as part of the 16th anniversary celebrations of the start of Transmetro operations. [1][2] The system also competes with the existing Transurbano system which is operated by private operators contracted by SIGA, an agency of the Government of Guatemala.

History
[edit]TuBus development started under the administration of mayor Ricardo Quiñonez, whose administration was responsible to procurement of new buses and the refurbishment of transit stops that were to be used by the new system.[3] TuBus started operations in May of 2023, with Route 104, running from Barrio San Antonio in Zone 6, through Zone 1 and the historic centre, to La Villa cementary in Zone 14. A second and third route started operations in June of 2024, running from Zone 7. Route 801 runs from Parque Los Pinos in Zone 7, to Terminal 4th Avenue, in the neighbourhood colloquially known as "La Terminal".[4] Route 802 also runs out of Parque Los Pinos in Zone 7, to 4th Avenue and 19th Street, which is near the Amate Transmetro Station.
Buses
[edit]The Municipality of Guatemala purchased 69 Buses Volvo, which were made in Brazil. The buses follow the Euro 6 standard for emissions, and are completely low-floor with ramps on board for wheelchair users.[5] A few of the buses were later repainted for Transmetro operations on Route 5.
