Production

[edit]

In July 2018, Warner Animation Group, now called Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, announced that it would produce an animated film about Toto, based on the 2017 children's book Toto: The Dog-Gone Amazing Story of The Wizard of Oz by Michael Morpurgo, with Mark Burton adapting the book.[2] By January 2020, John August was hired to write the screenplay and Jared Stern was set to serve as a producer through his A Stern Talking To banner.[1] In October 2020, Alex Timbers was hired to direct.[3] In February 2021, Derek Frey was announced to have replaced Stern as a producer with animation set to begin in late 2021 at the Animal Logic studio in Vancouver, Canada.[4][5]
