TOSCHI VIGNOLA
[edit]Toschi Vignola Srl is a food company specializing in the production of fruit in syrup, liqueurs, syrups, and products for ice cream making, based in Savignano sul Panaro, in the province of Modena. [1].. It also produces Balsamic Vinegar of MODENA IGP. [2].
HISTORY
[edit]Toschi was founded in 1945 in a small workshop in Vignola, in the province of Modena, from the idea of Giancarlo and Lanfranco Toschi to preserve Vignola cherries in spirit (now part of the Frutta Spiritosa line, which also includes other types of fruit).
In 1952, Toschi launched its cherry brandy, made by infusing morette (black Vignola cherries) in alcohol. During the 1950s, the company also introduced its Syrup and Amarena Toschi lines. In 1954, the company relocated to Savignano sul Panaro. The 1960s saw the expansion of Toschi’s liqueur range to include nocino, one of the region's traditional products. In the 1970s, Toschi began television advertising campaigns and expanded exports worldwide. In the 1980s, the Nocello liqueur was added to the product portfolio.
In the mid-1980s, the company changed ownership as part of a financial-industrial hub project named TBE, composed of food and engineering companies. [3] After a few years, the group faced difficulties, and the companies were put back on the market. [3]
In 1993, Massimo Toschi, who had previously worked in Toschi’s export sector, regained control of the family business with the help of his partner and childhood friend Giorgio Montorsi, who had recently sold his cured meats company. Ownership was split 50-50, with Montorsi serving as chairman and Toschi as CEO.[3]
In the late 1990s, the Fragolì and Mirtillì liqueurs were developed—sweet liqueurs enriched with whole fruits.
In 1998, a new product line, Toschi la Gelateria, was introduced, followed in 2000 by the Gino Toschi Vinegar line, which includes Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI, Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PDO, glazes, sauces, and condiments. [4].
In 2015, Toschi USA, a new commercial company based in New York, began operating in the U.S. market; two years later, Toschi UK was established in the United Kingdom. In 2022, the Toschi brand was added to the special register of historic brands of national interest, created by the Ministry of Economy.
TRADITION AND TERRITORY
[edit]Over its 70-year history, Toschi has expanded its product lines and broadened its reach while staying true to its mission: offering high-quality products with respect for tradition and the local territory. Many products are still made today following the family’s original recipes.
In 1953, thanks to the friendship between Giancarlo Toschi and Enzo Ferrari, Toschi collaborated with Ferrari to promote its products. That year’s world champion driver, Alberto Ascari, was the ambassador for a special gift set: a miniature race car containing three bottles of Toschi liqueur.
In 1981, under the company’s sponsorship, the annual Ciliegia d’Oro (Golden Cherry) award was established to honor individuals of Modenese origin or those connected to Modena who have excelled in social, cultural, industrial, commercial, sports, or humanitarian fields. Notable recipients include:
Enzo Ferrari (1981) Luciano Pavarotti (1982) Francesco Guccini (1989) Julio Velasco (1994) Luca di Montezemolo (2000) Luca Toni (2006) Massimo Bottura (2008) Mauro Forghieri (2018) Piero Ferrari (2021) Leonildo Turrini (2023).

[6] Toschi la Gelateria also introduced the original Mr. Donuts, an ice cream on a stick shaped like an American donut.
