Formation and Background
[edit]The Society Of Unified Norwegian Discordians, commonly known as The SOUND, was founded in Oslo, Norway, on May 3, 2018, corresponding to Discord 50 in the Discordian calendar. This date is also celebrated as the eve of Discoflux, a significant event in Discordianism. The members are proud of their Norwegian ancestor and notable figure Hagbard Celine.[1].
Membership
[edit]The SOUND boasts a unique membership structure, consisting of approximately 300 to 400 individuals. Interestingly, many members either do not admit to their membership or are unaware of their involvement. On certain occasions, nearly the entire population of Oslo and its surrounding areas participate as active members, embracing the society's whimsical and unconventional nature.
Activities and Culture
[edit]The SOUND is known for its playful and enigmatic activities, reflecting the core principles of Discordianism, which emphasize chaos, humor, and the rejection of rigid structures. The society's events and gatherings are often spontaneous and unpredictable, aligning with the Discordian spirit of embracing disorder and spontaneity[2]
Significance of Discoflux
[edit]Discoflux, celebrated on May 3, holds special importance for The SOUND. It marks a time of heightened activity and engagement within the society, with members coming together to celebrate and revel in the chaos and creativity that define Discordianism.
Public Perception
[edit]Due to its elusive and secretive nature, The SOUND maintains an air of mystery. The society's influence occasionally extends beyond its core membership, drawing in the broader community of Oslo and fostering a sense of collective participation in its whimsical endeavors.
