From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schism was a professional wrestling stable in WWE, performing on the NXT brand. The group was formed by Joe Gacy and included members Jagger Reid, Rip Fowler, and Ava. The stable made its debut on July 19, 2022, when Joe Gacy revealed the repackaged identities of the Grizzled Young Veterans (GYV), who were then renamed The Dyad. [1]

Formation and members

[edit]

The Schism was introduced to the when Joe Gacy revealed the identities of The Grizzled Young Veterans (GYV) on the July 19, 2022, episode of NXT 2.0. James Drake and Zack Gibson were repackaged as Jagger Reid and Rip Fowler, respectively, and aligned themselves with Gacy, forming The Schism. On October 25, 2022, Ava Raine, the mysterious red-hooded figure who had been seen accompanying the group, was revealed as the newest member.[2]

Storylines and feuds

[edit]

A significant feud for Schism was against Cameron Grimes. The conflict began with Joe Gacy's attempts to recruit Grimes into The Schism. Grimes consistently rejected these advances, leading to escalating tensions. After Grimes refused Gacy's offer and hug following an impromptu tag team match, Gacy and The Dyad attacked Grimes, marking the start of their rivalry.[3]

The feud intensified when Gacy claimed he could be a father figure to Grimes, exploiting the real-life loss of Grimes' father. During this rivalry, Ava Raine debuted and joined Schism, playing a crucial role in the feud. She cost Grimes his final match against Gacy on the November 8th episode of NXT, effectively ending the feud.

Grimes sought to counter Schism's growing threat by calling in reinforcements from outside of NXT. On an episode of Monday Night Raw, he enlisted the help of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson of The O.C., setting up a six-man tag team match against Schism. This match took place on the October 18, 2022, episode of NXT, where Grimes, Gallows, and Anderson triumphed over Joe Gacy, Jagger Reid, and Rip Fowler.[4]

On the May 9, 2023 episode of NXT, The Dyad challenged Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) for the NXT Tag Team Championships[5].This opportunity arose after Joe Gacy defeated Joe Coffey, securing the title shot for The Dyad. Despite their efforts and the presence of Ava and Gacy providing a psychological edge, The Dyad were unable to capture the titles.

Disbandment

[edit]

Schism began to disband in September 2023, starting with the expiration of The Dyad's contracts on September 14, 2023.[6] The end of Schism was marked by a series of events beginning with Joe Gacy confirming in a pre-taped vignette on the September 12 episode of NXT that Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid were no longer part of the group.[7]This was followed by a backstage segment at NXT No Mercy on September 30, 2023, where Joe Gacy declared The Schism to be "dead." Additionally, Ava Raine posted a cryptic tweet saying "goodbye" to NXT. [8]
