The Jins are a Canadian alternative rock trio from Vancouver consisting of vocalist and guitarist Ben Larsen, drummer Jamie Warnock, and bassist Hudson Partridge. They were formed in 2015. The Jins are named after pigeons.[1][2]
"When I moved to Vancouver, I lived in the Downtown Eastside in a really ratty old apartment. There were pigeons everywhere down there and I felt like I could relate to them, since they live in our city amongst us but they're not really a part of our culture." -Ben Larsen as quoted by The Runner[1]
They have toured North America and shared the stage with artists including Buckcherry, Hockey Dad, and Rare Americans.[2]
Musical Style
[edit]The Jins' music style has been at times likened to that of Nirvana and the Strokes. But, they have also been described as many different genres including grunge and punk. The Jins have described their own sound as "fun rock."[1][3] Their 2023 album, It's a Life was produced by Dave Genn and mixed by Adam Kasper. It is seen by some as change in the band's sound. The album has been described as having a poppier, more diverse range of sounds while having more introspective lyrics when compared to their earlier work.[2][4]
