This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of music-related topics). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). The Howl & The Hum are an alternative popular music band based in York, United Kingdom. The band are vocal and guitar based, with vocals provided by the lead singer and principal songwriter Sam Griffiths. The band describe their style as "miserable disco" making reference to their songs' melancholy lyrics.
History
[edit]The band formed when the members met at open mic nights in York[1]
They released their first single "Godmanchester Chinese Bridge" in the spring of 2017[2]
The band's first album "Human Contact" was released in 2020, but the planned promotion was affected by the global Covid pandemic .
In response to the Covid lockdown Sam Griffiths hosted a podcast series titled "Digging" exploring creativity, in which he interviewed fellow artists and collaborators and discussed the creative process[3]
In 2021 the band performed live at York Minster. The event was recorded and made available on streaming platforms. A vinyl release was made available in 2023 by Fairsound.[4]
Their second album is due for release in early 2024[5]. A single "Thumbs Up" was released in 2021 that is thought to be one of the tracks on the album. Thumbs Up addresses the subject of mens' mental health [6]
