The Haw River Ballroom is a music venue and event space located in historic Saxapahaw, North Carolina about 15 miles (24 km) west of Chapel Hill on the banks of the Haw River. It has three floors with a capacity of 750 people.[1]
History
[edit]The Haw River Ballroom was opened in 2011[2] by community activist Heather LaGarde and her husband Tom LaGarde, a former UNC, NBA and Team USA basketball player. The venue is situated inside of a building originally used as a dyehouse for the Saxapahaw Spinning Mill in the early 1900s.
Gillian Welch and David Rawlings performed the first concert at the venue in 2011 after cancelling a performance in Wilmington, North Carolina due to Hurricane Irene.
