The City Introvert is the second album by The Prize Fighter Inferno, a side project by the lead singer of Coheed and Cambria, Claudio Sanchez, and his wife, Chondra Echert. It was released on April 23rd, 2021, nearly 14.5 years after their first album, My Brother's Blood Machine, debuted.[1]
Background
[edit]During the coronavirus pandemic in March of 2020, per a press release, Claudio's "grandfather fell ill and simultaneously, his wife began battling an auto-immune disease. This meant that any potential exposure to the coronavirus could have deadly consequences at home, making a brief goodbye to his ailing grandfather unlikely. Sanchez found himself coping with the darkness and uncertainty the only way he knew how—writing."[2]
On March 21st, 2020, Claudio premiered a new song, "More Than Love", on his Instagram page.[3] In April 2020, he announced the song's official release on the Prize Fighter Inferno project’s Facebook page on April 3rd.[4]
An article from Spin Magazine on May 12, 2020 featured the debut of two additional songs, “Death Rattle” and “Crazy for You”; it also revealed that, sadly, Claudio's grandfather, a 100- year old World War II veteran, had recently passed away.[5]
On July 10th, 2020, those songs were included on a 5-track EP titled "Stray Bullets"; the title track features Weerd Science. (Coheed and Cambria's drummer Josh Eppard's solo rap project) [6] All 4 of these songs eventually appeared on the album.
The album was announced on March 11th, 2021 alongside the release of another new song, "Sweet Talkers", which features "a sample of [Claudio's] wife and son opening presents on Christmas morning".[7]
