Thaw and Eat is a category of frozen convenience foods which don’t need need an oven or microwave to prepare. The portable meal market was reported in 2022 to be worth $600 million.;[1]
Examples of 'thaw and eat' products include:
- J.M. Smucker Co. Uncrustables [2]
- Eggo waffles that don’t require a toaster [3]; and
- Heinz LaunchBox sandwiches.[4]
Commercial Activity
[edit]The Uncrustable frozen sandwich was first developed in 1995 and purchased by the J.M. Smucker Company in 1999[5]. Nestlé entered the 'thaw and eat' market in May 2022 with a sandwich that didn't need to be heated in a microwave it called a 'Deliwich' [6]
