Tehran Auction is an independent and private institution that operates in Tehran and is the main market for the sale of works of visual arts such as paintings, sculptures, calligraphy and photographs. This organization is the largest center for buying and selling works of art in Iran with a total sale of 65 billion Tomans in 2017.[1][2]

History

Tehran Auction Group officially started its activity on June 8, 2012, in Tehran. The approach of this auction is to introduce the best examples of modern and contemporary Iranian art, from pioneer and well-known artists to young artists, to art collectors and global audiences.

his auction will be held at the Parsian Azadi Hotel in Tehran and it will be managed by Alireza Sami-Azar, the former director of the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.

The most expensive works

On Friday, January 15, 2021, the painting "Memories of Hope" by Aydin Aghdashloo was offered at the Tehran auction at a base price of 1.2 billion Tomans and was finally sold for ten times that price, i.e. 12 billion Tomans. Previously, the most expensive work sold was a painting by Sohrab Sepehri, which was sold by Lili Golestan in Tehran's auction in 2019, in the ninth period, and was sold at a price of 5.1 billion tomans. After that, a work by Monir Farmanfarmaian with 4 billion tomans and another work by Hossein Zendaroudi with 3.5 billion tomans are at the top of the auction ranking.
