Talent Latent, also simply known as Latent, was a Congolese rumba band from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), that gained popularity in the 1990s.[1][2][3][4]
Band's history
[edit]Talent Latent was formed by Mosain Malanda and Faustin Djata, who were not musicians by profession. Although the precise year of the band's inception is unclear, Syllart Records , a French label that specializes in African and Afro-Latin music, claims that the band emerged in the late 1990s and experienced some success between 1997 and 1999.[1] The name, Talent Latent, suggests that its members harbor undiscovered abilities. The band featured the Congolese rumba singer Fally Ipupa, and his longtime associates Atele Kunianga, Lisimo Gentamicine, Cellulaire Yankobo, Pitshou Luzolo, and the soloist and guitarist, Papillion.[1]
