From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Su Park (hangul: 박수연; born February 1, 1994), also known as Suri, is a South Korean entrepreneur[1], art collector, curator[2], DJ, and socialite.[3] She was recognized on Forbes 2024 "30 Under 30" list for her contributions in the arts and across multiple industries.[4]

Early life

[edit]

Su Park was born in Seoul, South Korea, to investor Park Young-Ok[5] and a mother who is an interior designer and ceramics artist.[6] At the age of 13, she relocated to the United States to pursue her education.[7] She initially studied political communication at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., before moving to Paris[8] and shifting her focus to art history,[9] with a specialization in French art. Park furthered her education at the American University of Paris and La Sorbonne, and graduated from George Washington University. Additionally, she studied Art Business at Sotheby’s Institute of Art[10] and Chinese language and literature at the University of Hong Kong.[11]

Career

[edit]

Fashion

[edit]

In 2019, Park launched the fashion and lifestyle brand Suri Paris, which operates in Paris, Seoul, and New York. The brand is known for blending Eastern and Western influences into a classic, feminine style.[12][13] As a fashion and lifestyle influencer with a significant social media following,[14] Park has collaborated with numerous high-end brands and served as a key opinion leader (KOL) ambassador for companies such as Fred[15][16] and Royal Salute. She has also partnered with brands including Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Porsche,[17] BMW,[18] Bang & Olufsen,[19] Dyson, and Martell.[20] Park is a regular attendee at fashion shows and is often seen in the front rows of major events.[21][22][23][24][25]

Art

[edit]

Park began her art career in 2017 as part of the VIP team at Art Basel Hong Kong. She served as the project manager for the VIP hospitality program during the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics.[26] In 2017, she joined her family’s investment fund, Smart Income Inc.[27], as an international director. She manages private investments and the family office, with a focus on expanding their portfolio into alternative assets, art acquisition, and early-stage companies.

In 2021, Park founded Maison Suri, a creative consultancy and art platform that curates immersive experiences through art and design. Under Maison Suri, she launched the multi-sensory exhibition Mind•full•ness.[28] during the inaugural edition of Frieze Seoul in 2022[29][30] The exhibition, which featured over 35 artists and 100 artworks, explored Korean contemporary art, particularly the Dansaekhwa movement, through multi-sensorial curation.[31][32][33][34] In 2023, Park opened the Circle of Arts & Culture foundation, aimed at supporting emerging talents.[35] She also hosted the ‘Abundance’ exhibition during Paris+ Art Basel in 2023, which focused on the intuition, wisdom, and spiritual fertility of female artists.[36][37]

Park was appointed director of Kukje Gallery Paris in 2022, coinciding with the gallery's inaugural year and the first edition of Paris+ Art Basel. [38][39]

Design

[edit]

Through a collaboration with Eastern Edition, Maison Suri opened a showroom[40] that exhibits designer furniture, offering a modern interpretation of the Joseon Dynasty Hanok lifestyle.[41] The showroom also features artworks by prominent artists, including Lee Ufan, Ha Chong-Hyun, Kwon Young-woo, and others.[42][43][44] Park is a global ambassador for the Italian design brand Molteni & C, and she headlined their 2023 global campaign.[45][46]

DJ

[edit]

Performing under the moniker Sunami, Park has been active as a DJ since 2022.[47] She frequently hosts events related to fashion and art, playing sets for brands such as Fred, Dolce & Gabbana, Pomellato, and Gucci.[48][49][50][51]

Cultural Involvement

[edit]

Cultural Exchange

[edit]

In recognition of her efforts to foster cultural exchange across industries, the Korean Cultural Center in France invited Park to participate in the 2023 conference Bridge to the World - Young Mentors of Korea. Her segment focused on the potential for cultural and artistic exchanges between Korea and France.[52][53][54] For the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Park was appointed as the main host and face of Korea House. She was responsible for conducting the opening ceremony, guiding the exhibition of Korean art and culture, and coordinating VIP events. Park also served as the director of Korea House during the Paris Paralympics.[55]
