The Stokes Commission was a three person delegation appointed by the United States Congress in 1832 to pacify western tribes and prepare them for resettlement of eastern tribes in the area as part of Indian Removal efforts.[1]

In 1832, Montfort Stokes was appointed commissioner of Indian Affairs by president Andrew Jackson.[2]
