Sheikh Yahaya Amin (Arabic: يحي الأمين) is a Ghanaian Islamic leader and student of Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu. He is associated with the Tijānī Sufi order in Ghana and has served as the Coordinator of the Office of the National Chief Imam since its establishment. He also serves in an advisory capacity and is the Founder and Leader of the Islamic Foundation for Peace and Development.
Early Life
[edit]Sheikh Yahaya Amin was born to Alfa Mohammed Aminu and Halimatu Sadia, who were known in the Islamic community. Alfa Aminu, originally from Nigeria, was part of a group of clerics brought to Ghana to promote Islam. In addition to his work as a merchant, he taught Islamic principles. Sheikh Yahaya Amin's early exposure to scholars, including Mallam Nuhu Sharubutu, influenced his education.
Education
[edit]Sheikh Yahaya Amin began his education at the age of six under his father's guidance, focusing on Arabic studies and Quranic recitation. At ten, he moved to Accra to study with Mallam Sharubutu, where he also connected with Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu. The early bond between Yahaya Amin and Sheikh Osman blossomed into a lifelong relationship, with Yahaya Amin eventually becoming a confidante, advisor, and protégé of the National Chief Imam.[1] He attended a Western educational institution, gaining proficiency in English.
Contributions to Islam
[edit]By age twelve, Sheikh Yahaya Amin showed commitment to learning. In 1963, he completed his first written work, published in 1969, which became significant in the Sufi community. In 1964, he founded the Faila Stars soccer team to engage young adults in Arabic studies. Many of his students have pursued careers in various fields.
In 1961, he became involved in Islamic associations and later served as the first National Coordinator of the Office of the National Chief Imam, contributing to its establishment. In 1969, he renamed the Madarasatu Arabiya school, founded by the father of the National Chief Imam, to Ansarudeen Islamic Complex School. He has held several positions, including:

- National Coordinator, Jamiyatu Ansarudeen, Ghana – 1968.
- Lead Islamic Scholar, Radio Ghana External Service. Hausa Session - 1969 to 1983.
- Head, Ansarudeen Complex Schools of Ghana - 1969 to date.
- Chairman, Islamic Judicial Committee Office of the National Chief of Ghana - 1986 to date.
- Founder and Leader, Islamic Foundation for Peace and Development (IFPAD) Ghana - 2001 to date[2][3][4][5].
- Deputy Supreme Leader of the Supreme Council of Tijaniya Islamic Affairs Ghana.[6]
- Proprietor, Yamin Islamic School, Bortianor Hills, Accra Ghana - 2007 to date.
- Chairman, National Hilaal Committee of Ghana. 2017 to 2022.
- National Patron, NASFAT Ghana.
International Recognition and Advocacy
[edit]In 2001, Sheikh Yahaya Amin founded the Islamic Foundation for Peace and Development (IFPAD) to promote peace and development while upholding Islamic values. The organization collaborates with various agencies, including governmental institutions and international organizations.

[edit]Sheikh Yahaya Amin has received several awards for his contributions to Islam and peace, including:
- A Christian Values Award from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Ghana in 2018.[7]
