Serhii Volodymyrovych Yuzvyk (born 22 August 1996, Zhytomyr) is a Ukrainian session drummer, pianist, music producer, arranger, teacher. He worked with such artists as Alekseev, Irina Bilyk, Kazka, Kola, Verka Serduchka, VIA Gra and others.[1][2] Serhii is a worldwide endorser of drum and snare equipment companies such as Paiste and SE Electronics.[2] Serhii has his own artistic pseudonym Yuzvik. Under this pseudonym he records and releases tracks on digital music platforms.[3]
Early life
[edit]Serhii Yuzvyk was born on 22 August 1996 in Zhytomyr, Ukraine in a family of musicians. His father is Volodymyr Yuzvyk, a choirmaster. His mother is Liudmila Obukhova, a pianist, taught at the Pedagogical University of Zhytomyr.
In 2018, Yuzvyk is graduating with a bachelor's degree from the R. Glier Kyiv Institute of Music in the following fields: orchestra, ensemble, percussion, professional and educational institution teacher (pop and jazz), and conductor.
Career
[edit]In 2006 Serhii Yuzvyk entered a music school in Moscow at the State Music College of Variety and Jazz Art, but then transferred to Grechaninov music school, where he joined the children's ensemble "Jazz-Peak".[4]
The first jazz ensemble in which Serhii began to participate was "Jazz-Peak" under the direction of Peter Petrukhin, Honoured Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation. At that moment of time "Jazz-Peak" was rather famous children's jazz ensemble in Moscow as well as beyond its borders, together with this ensemble Serhii began to participate in international competitions and festivals as well as to win various prizes and was a participant of several musical foundations.[4] In this ensemble almost one hundred per cent of the programme were American jazz standards. He graduated from the music school in 2010 with a red diploma.
In 2016 Serhii Yuzvyk together with musicians Andriy Chmut and Mykhailo Ostapenko created Smooth Operation, a smooth jazz band with 4 saxophones and a full rhythm section.[5] In the same year the first concert in Club 44 in Kyiv and a concert at the international festival Leopolis Jazz Fest (Alfa Jazz Fest old name) took place. A year later Smooth Operation gives several concerts at major venues in Kyiv.
At the Leopolis Jazz Fest (Alfa Jazz Fest) in 2016 Serhii participated in the Unstitute Big Band led by Denis Adu (trumpet) together with jazz legend Mike Abene (USA) whose arrangements can be heard in WDR Big-band and GRP All Star Big Band.[6]
In 2017, Serhii Yuzvyk joins the Alekseev team and becomes the main drummer of the artist,[2] whose hit has gained 80 million views on YouTube. In 2018, the preparation for the tour "Without make-up, the best about love" of the People's Artist of Ukraine Iryna Bilyk, which is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the artist, begins. The tour lasted for 2 months and visited 30 cities including 3 concerts in the Palace "Ukraine". After this tour, Serhii becomes Iryna Bilyk's permanent drummer, with 2 more Ukrainian tours taking place in the following years.[2]
In May 2019, Yuzvyk performs as a session drummer with the artist Verka Serduchka[1] at the Eurovision 2019 after-party in Tel Aviv (Israel) where the queen of pop music Madonna was present at the concert.
In 2021, Serhii Yuzvyk received an offer to join the line-up of the musical band VIA Gra,[7] which also included Vadym Pakholiuk (bass) and Matvii Monakov (guitar).
In January 2021, Yuzvyk becomes a world endorser of the Swiss company Paiste, which is one of the five famous drum cymbal and drum equipment manufacturers.[2]
In the same year Serhii Yuzvyk releases his first single "About One" as a performer under the pseudonym Yuzvyk,[3] together with Ukrainian vocalist and DJ — Teya Flow.[8] Also Serhii meets the artist Gorim! whose tracks have already been in rotation on many radio stations in Ukraine. A new chapter of Yuzvyk's career as a sound producer begins, together with Gorim! they release singles "Колискову",[9] "Котики на сонці",[10] "Fireshow".[11]
