The Sadequain Foundation[1] is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of the Pakistani artist and calligrapher Syed Sadequain Ahmad Naqvi.[2]

History

Founded in 2007 by Dr. Salman Ahmad Naqvi, a nuclear scientist, the foundation was established to address concerns surrounding the preservation of Sadequain's artwork. These concerns included the loss or displacement of a significant portion of his works following his death and the rise of fraudulent activities involving his name.

Mission

The foundation aims to:

  • Discover and preserve: Locate, authenticate, and preserve missing or undocumented Sadequain artworks.
  • Research and document: Conduct in-depth research on Sadequain's life, career, and artistic techniques.
  • Educate and engage: Organize exhibitions, seminars, and public programs to increase awareness of Sadequain's work.
  • Promote and disseminate: Publish books, articles, and documentaries on Sadequain's life and art.

  • Publications: The foundation has published numerous books and articles on Sadequain, including "The Saga of Sadequain[3]," considered a huge volume book on the artist's life and work.
  • Exhibitions: It organizes exhibitions of Sadequain's artwork in various locations, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Dubai, Pakistan, and India.
  • Authentication: The foundation provides authentication services for Sadequain's artworks, issuing certificates of authenticity to ensure their provenance and value.
  • Galerie Sadequain: In 2017, the foundation established Galerie Sadequain at Frere Hall in Karachi, showcasing a collection of Sadequain's artwork and poetry. The hall itself features significant mural paintings by the artist
