SAMUEL OSUOLALE JONATHAN
Samuel Osuolale Jonathan is a distinguished Nigerian Technical Director and Director of Photography renowned for his extensive contributions to Nollywood film, television, TV commercials and documentaries. Born on December 3, 1978, in Lagos State, Nigeria, Samuel's passion for visual storytelling was nurtured from a young age under the guidance of his father, a professional photographer and videographer. This early exposure equipped him with fundamental skills in handling manual cameras and video equipment, laying a solid foundation for his future career.
Samuel's formal education began at Subola Primary School in Surulere, Lagos, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. He continued his education at Ansar Ud-Deen Grammar School, Randle Avenue, Surulere, Lagos, completing his Senior School Certificate Examination. His pursuit of higher education led him to Lagos State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication, specializing in Photojournalism and Cinematography.
Samuel's remarkable career has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. In 2018, he was honored with the MSAA – Africa Best Cinematographer of the Year award. His exceptional work on "The Mystic River" earned him a nomination for Best Cinematographer at the AMVCA 2022.
Early life
[edit]Starting in 1991, Samuel worked at Uncle Sess Studios, where he honed his skills in photography and video coverage. This early exposure to the industry laid a strong foundation for his professional pursuits.
Education
[edit]Samuel Osuolale Jonathan pursued his early education at Subola Primary School in Surulere, Lagos, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. He continued his secondary education at Ansar Ud-Deen Grammar School, Randle Avenue, Surulere, Lagos, successfully completing his Senior School Certificate Examination.
For higher education, Samuel attended Lagos State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication. His academic focus was on Photojournalism and Cinematography, fields that would later define his professional career.
