SAE University College is a private university college with multiple campuses across Australia and Dubai, specializing in creative media education and computer science. It emerged as a distinct entity in 2023 following the division of SAE Institute operations by Navitas Limited.
History
[edit]SAE University College traces its origins back to 1976 when Tom Misner founded the School of Audio Engineering (SAE) in Sydney, Australia. Initially focused on audio engineering, SAE rapidly expanded its offerings and geographic footprint, establishing campuses across Australia, Europe, Asia, and North America over the following decades.
In 2010, SAE was acquired by Navitas Limited, an Australian education services company.[4] This acquisition spurred further global expansion, with Navitas opening new campuses and acquiring additional education providers.
In 2022, Navitas restructured SAE's operations, selling the United Kingdom and mainland Europe campuses to AD Education, a subsidiary of the France-based private equity firm Ardian.[5] This split allowed Navitas to focus on its core operations in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the US, where it retained control over SAE Creative Media Institute.
On December 22, 2023, SAE Creative Media Institute in Australia was granted the status of a University College by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), becoming one of only seven institutions in Australia to hold this title.[6] This change marked a significant milestone in the institution's evolution, elevating its status within the higher education sector and reaffirming its commitment to providing high-quality creative media education.

SAE University College maintains several key partnerships with universities worldwide, enabling it to offer accredited degree programs. In Australia, it is fully accredited to award its own Bachelor's and Master's degrees.[7] The institution's Dubai campus offers degree certification in partnership with Middlesex University.
