Rupanty Akid (pronounced /ˈrooˈpun'tea/ roo-pon-thee) is an Australian actress[1] and photographer.[2] Rupanty made her small screen debut in 2012 with significant roles in Bangladeshi television shows, television dramas, and stage performances. She made her film debut in the critically acclaimed Chorki film 'Kacher Manush Dure Thuiya' in 2024, co-starring alongside Pritom Hasan and Tasnia Farin.[1]
Rupanty is slated to appear in two feature films set for theatrical release, 'Bonolota Sen'[3] and 'Hindi-Vindi'[4][5] co-starring Neena Gupta[6], Mihir Ahuja[7], and Guy Sebastian[8].
Early life and career
[edit]Rupanty Akid was born in Manly, New South Wales. She is the eldest of three siblings, with a younger sister and a younger brother.[9] Her passion for Bengali culture, art, and entertainment led her to venture into theatre,[10] where she then featured in over 15 productions during her school holidays.[1] Rupanty completed her schooling in Sydney and graduated from Western Sydney University.[4]
Rupanty gained prominence after playing the title role of Jennifer in 'Hello Bangladesh' (2015),[11] after debuting in TV series 'Probashe Porobashi', directed by Azizul Hakim, in 2012.[12]
Advocacy
[edit]Rupanty has been outspoken on many issues such as representation in media,[13] on adopting rescue animals, and sponsoring children in need.[14]
