History

[edit]

Formation and "The World Around Me" EP (2013–2014)

[edit]

The band was formed in 2013 by Marvin McMahon, Danny Snow and brothers Dorian and Oscar Neidhardt. In 2014, they released their first EP "The World Around Me" produced by Ben Humphreys and John Mitchell. The EP's second single "What If I Stay" features vocals from Shane Told of Silverstein and was used to speak up about depression, with proceeds going to non-profit movement To Write Love On Her Arms. This single became a success for the band, with the music video being on full circulation on MTV, MTVu and VH1.[3] The band released a new single "Fight As One, Die Alone" in 2015.[4]

Neidhardt's departure and December "EP" (2015–2017)

[edit]

In December 2015, amidst working on their follow-up EP "December", the band have announced that Oscar Neidhardt, founding member and bassist, has left the band. The band then went on to release lead-single "Seven" exclusively via Asking Alexandria guitarist Ben Bruce's clothing label Serpent & Co in April 2016.[5]

Record deal and debut album "A Motion Paralysed"(2018–present)

[edit]

In May 2018 the band began teasing insights from the studio, announcing that they are currently recording new material. The band has subsequently revealed the release of their debut-album "A Motion Paralysed" via Department Musik, after releasing lead-single "Silence Means Nothing". That track featured Liam Cormier of Cancer Bats.[6] On April 23, 2021 the band has released their latest single "If I Go, I'm Goin", a cover of South African Singer-Songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov.[7]

Musical style

[edit]

New Noise Magazine's Nicholas Senior wrote "River Becomes Ocean are clearly talented at mixing modern post-hardcore with electronic undercurrents". [8] Whilst Punktastic described the band as "cinematic, powerful and catchy rock" and "brimming with ferocity and immediately memorable choruses". [9]
