Rishi Gupta is an Indian banker, currently serving as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fino Payments Bank, a position he has held since its inception in 2017.[1]

Early Life and Education

Gupta holds a bachelor's degree in commerce from the Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi and is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Cost and Works Accountant. He is a member of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICWAI).[2]

Career

Before joining Fino Payments Bank, Gupta worked with Maruti Udyog Limited, ICICI Bank Limited, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).[3]

He was a founding member of Fino PayTech Limited, the parent company of Fino Payments Bank. In his previous roles as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), he established operational and financial frameworks for the company.[4]

Under his leadership, Fino Payments Bank expanded its service portfolio significantly, introducing digital banking solutions and strengthening its partnerships with fintech companies. He led initiatives to drive financial inclusion by reaching rural and semi-urban areas with accessible banking services. Fino also launched its IPO under his leadership in 2021, making it one of the first payments banks to go public in India.[5]

Gupta has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the financial sector, including:

  • CFO 100 Roll of Honour (2011, 2012, 2013)[6]
  • The India CFO Award for Excellence in Finance in a Start-up (2013) awarded by IMA
  • CA Entrepreneur – Path Breaker – Financial Services awarded by the Committee for Professional Accountants in Business and Industry (2018)
  • Listed among the 100 Top Most Influential BFSI Leaders (2019)[7]

Recent Developments

In May 2023, Gupta was reappointed as the Managing Director and CEO of Fino Payments Bank for a three-year term.[8]

Under his guidance, the bank has been exploring conversion into a Small Finance Bank to expand its services, including lending capabilities. Discussions with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regarding this transition were ongoing as of December 2024.[9]

Personal Life

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Gupta shared insights into his personal life, mentioning that he and his family went into self-quarantine. He adapted to working from home, setting up a designated office space and maintaining a routine that included yoga and spending quality time with his children.[10]
