Ri Ekl or Richard Ekl (born April 4, 1984, in Budapest, Hungary) is a Hungarian experimental poet based in London, UK.
Early life and education
[edit]Ekl was born in Budapest to academic parents. He completed his high school education in Budapest and moved to England for his higher studies. Ekl graduated with a specialization in Mathematics for Machine Learning from Imperial College London, focusing on mathematical models and predictive analytics.[1][2]
Works
[edit]Alongside his technical career, Ekl developed a unique form of poetry that utilizes Microsoft Excel as a platform for artistic expression. In his works, he integrates Excel formulas and functions into the structure of his poems, allowing the numerical data to interact with words to create rhythm and meaning. Ekl’s innovative approach merges the precision of mathematics with the emotive power of poetry, challenging traditional boundaries between disciplines. His poetic works often feature alongside visual elements like graphs and tables, highlighting the thematic connections between the numerical components and the poetic narrative.[3]
He has published in journals, such as:
- Poor Yorick Journal[4]
- Antilang[5]
- The Quiet Feather[6]
