Rich Harris is a British web developer and award winning interactive journalist.[1] He created the web technologies Svelte and rollup. He previously worked for The Guardian as a front-end developer creating interactive articles.[2] He also worked as a graphics editor for The New York Times in a similar role.[3] He is now employed by Vercel to develop Svelte full time.[4]

Career

Rich Harris graduated from UCL with a BA in philosophy..[5] He initially worked for Citywire as a financial reporter, video journalist, and web producer[2]. He then worked for The Guardian's UK interactive team, which collectively won an Emmy[3]. He is now employed by Vercel (an American cloud platform) to develop Svelte full time[4]

Svelte was based on an earlier creation of Rich Harris known as Ractive.js,[6][7] a tool he created at The Guardian for the creation of interactive news stories.[8] It has since been repeatedly ranked as one of the most 'admired and desired' web frameworks in the Stack Overflow developer survey.

Rollup

rollup is a JavaScript module bundler[9] created by Rich Harris. As of the 10th of June, 2024, the project has 24,936 stars on GitHub.
