Revant Himatsingka (Food Pharmer)
[edit]Revant Himatsingka, born 29th February 1992, popularly known as Foodpharmer, is an Indian entrepreneur, author, and social media influencer. As of June 2024, he has about 2.6 million followers on Instagram.
Early life and education
[edit]Revant was born in Kolkata and did his primary schooling in India, before pursuing higher education in the USA. He completed his Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Management from NYU Stern School of Business where he pursued a double major in Finance and Management, and his Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School.[1][2][3]
Career
[edit]Initially on a finance career track, he worked on Wall Street before deciding to diverge from this path.[4][5] This period also saw the inception of his authorial venture, resulting in the publication of 'Selfienomics', a self-help comedy book published by Bloomsbury, which achieved the status of an Amazon Top 100 Bestseller in its first week of pre-order.[6][7]
Following his initial career and authorial venture, Himatsingka moved towards health and wellness advocacy, adopting the moniker 'Foodpharmer'. His transition was marked by a rebranded online presence, a shift to the 'Food Pharmer' persona, which garnered a significant following on Instagram.[8]
On April 1 2024, Himatsingka released a video calling out Bournvita, a popular beverage, for its high sugar content and misleading marketing as a healthy product.[9] The video was since then taken down with Himatsingka issuing an apology, following Mondelez India rejecting the claims and sending him a legal notice.[10]
Following this, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights issued a notice to Mondelez to withdraw all 'misleading' ads under Section 14 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act 2005, after receiving a complaint that alleged that Bournvita had substances that could cause 'harmful impact' to the health of children.[11]
Besides Bournvita, Himatsingka has also called out other brands like Tang, Sting, Kissan, Maggi as well as bread brands in India, on his social media.[12]
On May 11 2024, Himatsingka also released a viral campaign “Label Padhega India” in collaboration with numerous Indian celebrities, sports personalities and internet personalities.[13]
