Resurrected taxon is a term used to describe a name for a previously used but discarded name for a group of genera, species, etc. similar to a wastebasket taxon but instead of being the result of misidentified or hard to place species being put in the same taxa
instead a Resurrected taxon is usually the result of genetic testing, lumping of a species or group then splitting back of those taxa, or splitting on previously thought to be more closely related taxa.
