Draft:Republican and social action (Fourth Republic)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Republican and Social Action (French: L'Action républicaine et sociale) (ARS) was a French parliamentary group that existed from 1952 to 1954, at the time of the second legislative term of the Fourth Republic.

History

[edit]

The group has its origins in a 1952 crisis, which shook the deputies of Rally of the French People. Against the will of the party leader, General de Gaulle, 27 elected Gaullist voted for the investiture of Antoin Pienay as President of the Council. They eventually broke away and created a new group, with its head being Edmond Barrachin and as vice presidents André Bardon, Édouard Frédéric-Dupont, André-Jean Godin, and Raymond Mondon.[citation needed]

Henry Bergasse held the presidency of the group from 1953 to 1954, when the ARS joined the Nation Center of Independents and Peasants.[citation needed]
